“A vacation is having nothing to do all day and all day to do it in.”

This quote describes my trip to Pondicherry perfectly! My plan for the day and a half we were there was precisely this- do absolutely nothing. I’ve visited the place before so I had a fair idea of what Pondi is like, but to first timers- read up before you visit. If you’re expecting a place like Goa, Pondi will be a huge disappointment. I thought our trip was perfect- we swam, went to the beach, walked around the French colony ( only as much as the scorching sun would let us). I’ve already visited Aurville once before, so missing out on that wasn’t a bummer.

We visited a couple of restaurants- Rendezvous, Bakers Street, and The Hidesign Hotel -Promenade which has a beautiful view of the sea. We were staying at The Mahindra Resort, which is a little far from the main city, but is a very nice property. Although if you’re staying there make sure you plan on having most of your meals outside the resort. The food there is overpriced and disappointing. Tanto’s pizza is fabulous, and is quite close to Auroville. If you want to get some shopping done it would be best to ask a local or someone who has visited before for the best bargains.

Overall my short trip to Pondicherry was a blissful two day break from the city.
