Sunday Brunch in Bangalore is quite a strange phenomenon, and far from what one would expect of brunch. In most cultures, brunch involves eggs, preferably Benedict, a variety of breads and juices to hydrate you after some routine Saturday night revelry. But in Bangalore, brunch is an event that one plans their weekend around. People stay in on Saturday nights in anticipation of the copious amounts of alcohol that are presented at brunch, and the many many many shooters that are consumed, usually one in every colour of the rainbow.

Dressing for Sunday brunch in Bangalore is of utmost importance. One needs to find an outfit that is day appropriate, highlights your best features (because the brunch itself is going to be very well documented on social media) and doesn’t stain when a cosmopolitan (or two) is spilled on it. And lets not forget accessories- there must be sunglasses, the shinier the better. Ruby Woo is usually a hot favourite amongst the ladies, but more of it ends up on champagne glasses than on the pouts of the brunch goers themselves. The heels usually come off at around 4 pm, when brunchers haggle with the waiters for their last orders (aka enough drinks for the next two hours). The more seasoned drinkers then saunter off to a ‘sundowner’ where the party continues, and the rest go home to sleep off their headaches and prepare for the massive hangover that is going to plague their Monday morning.

The outfit I’m wearing here is quite frankly the ideal Sunday brunch outfit. The skirt is water/Cosmo resistant, the crop top allows me to freely move my hands and order another mimosa or stretch my arm out to take a boomerang selfie, and the bun I’ve made with my hair is unaffected by sweat and afternoon frizz. The heels though are what I’d skip- 7 inch heels and vodka mixed with dancing on top of tables to ‘Shape of You’ are most definitely the makings of a disaster and maybe even a broken ankle or two.

Although my next bi-annual brunch in scheduled for 4 months from now, I hope those of you that have your tables booked at Shiro for 1 pm tomorrow are hydrating right now and retiring early. And most importantly, I hope you’ve got your outfit picked out 😉
